Need guidance or inspiration for creating messages? You’ve come to the right place.
Our Messages tool puts you in control of sharing what matters most—whether it’s practical directions, heartfelt reflections, or celebrations of life’s big moments. Designed to work alongside our Memories feature, Messages lets you attach existing memories or craft standalone notes that deliver on your schedule: pick a calendar date, tie it to a milestone, or empower a delegate to send it when the moment arrives.
In addition to being a place to record useful instructions and directives for your next of kin, the messages feature is a great way to maintain a connection to your loved ones, even after you’ve passed. By telling your story and sharing your feelings now, you can be sure that in the future, they’ll know how much you cared. This is a place where you can get as personal as you’d like, whether you want to share key aspects of your life story and legacy, your most heartfelt feelings, hard earned wisdom and advice, or simply schedule messages to let them know that you were always thinking of them.
How to make the most of messages
Choose a recipient and write your message. Attach photos, videos, or documents from Memories if you like. Then select one of three delivery options:
-
- Schedule a date: Send them sooner, or later, it’s up to you. This option lets you write messages that will go out regardless of whether you’ve passed. It’s a great way to share memories and reflect with loved ones throughout your life.
-
- Send at the time of my passing: Ensure your final wishes and heartfelt messages reach loved ones at the time of your passing.
-
- Send at the time of my passing: This option allows you to choose a timeframe after your passing when the message will be delivered. For example, on the 5th anniversary of your death, or December 24th, 2 years after Paige has been notified of your passing.
-
- Delegate delivery: Assign a trusted friend or family member to press send for you at a certain time—perfect for weddings, anniversaries or other milestones you may miss.
Haven’t decided how you want to deliver it yet, or want to keep working on it? Save it as a draft and you can come back to it later.
Message examples to help you get started
Final Wishes & Instructions
“My home key is taped under the left planter on the porch. After the service, please close my Etsy shop and send the final sales report to Linda.”
“Please make sure my funeral is a celebration of my life and our wonderful years together, not a solemn event. I would like to have my ashes spread by my immediate family under the cherry tree where we used to picnic in Delaney Park.”
Milestones & Celebrations
“Congrats on your wedding day, Sarah. I’ve asked Aunt Jane to deliver you this note before you walk down the aisle—though I can’t be there in person, please know that I have always been rooting for your happiness.”
“While I couldn’t be there to watch you cross that stage at graduation, please know that my heart is with you today, beaming with pride and admiration. I always knew you would do great things—and you’re just getting started.”
Memories & Stories
“I dug up the photo of us at Lollapalooza, muddy and soaked by that surprise rainstorm—we brought new meaning to the word grunge.”
“I came across the note you left me on Valentine’s Day in kindergarten—your sweet misspelling of ‘I love you’ reminded me how big your heart has always been.”
“This Christmas, please take a moment to think back on the fun times we shared baking Aunt Sally’s cookie recipe, which I’ve attached here. I hope you feel close to me as you carry on the tradition and pass it on with love to Dakota and Grace.”
Apologies and Forgiveness
“Please forgive me for missing your graduation. Even from afar, I was celebrating you in my heart.”
“I forgive you for the promise you broke years ago. I see how hard you tried afterward, and I want to make sure you know I moved on from the hurt.”
Advice & Motivation
“Remember, the biggest growth happens outside your comfort zone. Lean into the unknown and see where it takes you. Everyone said I was crazy when I started my business, but it was the best risk I ever took.”
“When you’re upset, take five minutes to cool down before talking to someone you love—it’s amazing how much clarity a short break brings to tough conversations.”
Appreciation & Love
“Thank you, Mark, for every cup of coffee you made during my chemo treatments. Your quiet support gave me more strength than you know.”
“Through every high and low, your steady love has been my anchor—I’m grateful for every moment we’ve shared and every memory yet to come.”
I Need You to Know
“You’ve always been my biggest champion, even when I doubted myself. I need you to know how deeply you’ve shaped my life.”
“I need you to know your grandfather always spoke of you with pride. He had a tough upbringing and had trouble showing affection. Through it all, your laughter, and your success were his brightest light.”
Other
“I left you my vinyl collection because I know you’ll appreciate it more than anyone else. Give “Blonde on Blonde” a spin on my birthday and think of the times we spent listening to it together.”
No matter the message—practical, playful, or deeply personal—the Messages tool gives you the freedom to speak on your own terms. Start crafting yours today and rest easy knowing your words will arrive to touch those who matter most in your life exactly when they’re meant to.
